The start was far from ideal for Moroccans. Since, a few minutes after the kick-off, the WAC was caught on a defensive largesse in the left corridor. A Qatari, who had managed to escape his Moroccan bodyguards, was at the second post for Akram Afi. This one, free of any markings, did not manage to adjust his recovery of the head (6th). Two minutes later, goalkeeper Youssef El Motie, nailed to his line, saw Hassan Al Haydos' rolled-up strike dangerously flirting with the right upright (8').
After this short time, the WAC found its bearings and worried the Saudi rearguard. Notably by a centre from the left, intercepted by the goalkeeper Sadd Al Sheeb (13th), then a centre from the right for Mountasir Lahtimi, too short to take the lead from the second post (18th). Adil Ramzi’s men again created danger in the Whites' camp, but on a two-on-one, the latter dithered and saw the defence return in extremis (31').
The WAC sees red
While the domination was on the side of the WAC, it changed sides when the Casablancais were reduced to ten, following the exclusion of defensive midfielder Yahya Jabrane (36'). Thus, as soon as the takeover, Al-Sadd made the seat in the defense of Wydad. In this sense, Youssef El Motie had to capture a distant shot from outside the surface in two stages (46').
In short-handed competition, the WAC was not at the end of its rope. Mountasir Lahtimi suffered an injury and was replaced by Bouly Sambou (50'). This led to a series of Saudi attacks. Pedro Miguel’s deflected cross found the post (56'), then Ali Assadalla deflected his shot after slipping into the Moroccan defence (65'). At the end of the match, Mateus Uribe took the lead from Akram Afif and found the foot of Ayoub El Amloud who saved the goal in front of the line (87'). However, the WAC was close to the robbery by Bouly Sambou in the game stops. Thrown in the back of the defence, the Senegalese dribbled the goalie and left in front of the empty goal. But his shot was narrowly countered by his counterpart (90e+3).
In the draw, the WAC is tied for the lead in Group B for the time being with Al Ahli Tripoli and Al-Hilal.
